Jenn and the VW Westfalia

As I transition from photography as a job back to photography as a hobby, I’m trying to reignite my passion for all the different facets of photography, such as planning, gathering inspiration, shopping for shoots, and pulling it all together.   I’ve always wanted to shoot with a vintage VW, so I was thrilled when a friend sent me in the direction of Nancy and her gorgeous VW Westfalia (she rents it out for photoshoots and also as a PhotoBooth for events!)  When I was able to secure the van, I started to gather the rest of the elements together for the photoshoot!  I already knew I wanted to use the beautiful Jenn as my model because she already has such a fun 70’s aesthetic to her.  Once the van and model were lined up, it was time to location scout and get the wardrobe together!  I headed to Forever21 for most of my shoot wardrobe and scored the entire first outfit there as well as the super cute black swimsuit (which we used as a bodysuit) and the yellow t-shirt.  The white dress came from my wardrobe (and unfortunately met a terrible fate the next day thanks to my Frenchie).

Jenn in the forest | A personal shoot

One of my favorite things to do before and after a busy season of client work is to shoot a personal session.  Sometimes I put a lot of prep work into the session – making inspiration boards, gathering wardrobe, scouting locations – and sometimes I find a model and an outfit and just wing it.  This session was definitely the latter version.  I contacted the lovely Jenn on Instagram after coming across a picture of her and crossed my fingers that she wouldn’t ignore my message and think that I was a total weirdo.  Thankfully, she messaged me back and we planned on a session for early December.  I rented a couple of dresses from “Rent the Runway” and we planned to meet at the soccer fields that my kids play soccer at!  It was bitterly cold, windy, and cloudy on the day that we shot (not exactly the best shooting conditions), but Jenn’s beauty made for some amazing images!

A Bittersweet Announcement

I’m not even sure how to start this post, honestly, but I’ve put it off long enough.  After a whole lot of soul-searching and discussions with family & friends, I have decided to put my business on hold for the foreseeable future.  As of December 31, I will no longer be taking on any new clients.  I’ll spend the Spring wrapping up client orders for current clients and then after that I will be closing down my business.   With the birth of my third child this past Spring, I realized that life was passing me by at an alarming rate.  I have absolutely loved capturing important memories for my clients but at the same time, I was missing out on memories of my own.  My busy season kept me from attending any of my oldest child’s soccer games & climbing competitions, and kept me up late at night while trying to get caught up on editing, bookkeeping, and all the other less fun aspects of small business ownership.  I will continue to photograph things for myself (and might pop up a “model” application so I have new faces to photograph), but I can’t say when I will return to photography as a business.  I am so thankful for all of the people who have chosen me to photograph their important moments over the years and for all of the people that have continually encouraged me to pursue my dreams.

……and with that, Merry Christmas to you & yours from me & mine!

Tosha | Styled Bridal at Ravington

I have always dreamed of shooting a film session in an all white room, so when I saw pictures of the new wedding venue, The Ravington, I freaked out!  The Ravington is an AMAZING new wedding & event venue in Centerton with the most amazing all white bridal room.  My bestie, Lissa Chandler Photography, did a model call and we both unanimously voted on Tosha to be our model because of her unique look and amazing pixie cut!  When we finally met Tosha on the shoot day, we both freaked out about her amazing tattoos!  We had planned out a few “edgy bridal” looks so the tattoos were just the icing on the cake. I absolutely adore shooting styled shoots and it is so much more fun when you collaborate with someone else!

I decided at the beginning of this summer that this would be the ‘summer of film’ and so far I’ve pretty much stuck to shooting a roll of film a week.  I made an effort to shoot more film than digital on this shoot and I’m so glad because I love the results!!!  These are all Fuji 400h shot through a Contax 645 and developed and scanned by the FIND lab.2016-07-19_00112016-07-19_0012

Williams Twins | Fayetteville AR seniors

This was the year of multiples for me – I photographed a few sets of twins as well as a set of triplets!  Anna & Emily are both super involved at Fayetteville High school – whether participating in sports or academics.  These lovely young ladies were referred to me by one of my senior models, Caroline, and I’m so glad I got to work with them!!  We had a fun time doing images of them alone as well as together and I’m thrilled with the end results!
